Hello again. From the Christian Science Board of Directors’ recent trip to Africa and from four just-concluded Church Alive Summits held in the USA, Germany, and the UK, we’ve seen tangible signs of the expansive thinking and activity moving our members forward with Church. We think this new video newsletter provides glimpses of this progress taking place the world over. Later this summer, you’ll be able to see more complete versions of these stories, in addition to the many others already posted here on the Church Alive section of christianscience.com. We hope you’ll be inspired by how our church community is learning and growing.

Christ calling us together and Church Alive

We all have encounters in our daily lives—whether family, church, community, or just one-on-one. Are these encounters merely the result of human planning? Or can we look more deeply and see a divine impulsion behind them? Can we discern that it’s actually Christ that calls us together? That call not only pulls us together as a movement, but it also pushes us outward to acknowledge and embrace a global and denominational unity.

View a new video featuring the Board of Directors and other members from around the world sharing ideas and experiences about this Christ-calling and Church Alive.

Message from the Clerk of The Mother Church emailed to members, July 12, 2011

Hello fellow members and friends,

Since last September, thousands have gathered online and in person to share what has stirred their hearts about Church Alive. The persistent message emerging from this community’s conversations, questions, and experiences is undeniable–this Church is very much alive! For all who are interested in letting this light glow brighter and reach farther, will you join us for another year of Church Alive?

One spark, one flicker, of Love’s light in the darkness is enough to draw all things to it–a wonderful presence whispering the way. If a few individuals alive to the Christ-spirit were enough to move mountains and nations in the early Church, surely thousands awakening to this Spirit today are a light that cannot be hid.

The inspired perspectives shared on the Church Alive website thus far are evidence of the depth of thought and honest seeking in our worldwide church community.  [You will find] examples of our newest contributions if you haven’t visited lately (you might also notice our recent navigation and content download updates on our web pages):

In his letter to the Galatians, Paul shares that spiritual progress is not determined by what we do or don’t do on the surface, but is found in “the power of new birth” as J.B. Phillips translates it. May we all discover more of this transformation and renewal as we explore the living power of Church together.

Warmly,

Nathan Talbot
Clerk of The Mother Church

A bulletin from the Christian Science Board of Directors, September 7, 2010

Dear fellow members and friends,

We’d like to tell you about CHURCH ALIVE, the theme we have decided to focus on in the upcoming year.

Church is an idea that has been defined in many ways over the centuries within the Christian tradition. For some, the idea of church may conjure up images of a safe and peaceful place to commune with the Divine. For others, church may be more aligned with a like-minded community and fellowship. For Christian Scientists, church is much more than a place or a community. We look forward to exploring together the spiritual basis and awakening impact of Church.

Mary Baker Eddy recognized that the only way to unite with this higher sense of Church is through being “new-born of Spirit” and through “healing” (Science and Health, p. 35). In its purest form, Church is the spiritual structure of Truth’s infinite ideas and Love’s boundless activities anchored in the timeless wisdom of divine Principle. We all have the gift of discovering and practicing more of this unlimited divine idea.

Over the next 12 months, we’ll work with Christian Scientists in two or three locations to organize regional Church Summits open to all. These meetings will consist of talks and discussions designed to address the Field’s needs and will be guided by the Church Manual’s simple, inspired direction. There will also be Church Summit activities in areas that wish to participate, including Boston, during the weekend before Annual Meeting.
