2013 Per Capita Tax Message
Dear Fellow Members,
A great privilege of serving as Treasurer of The Mother Church is connecting with many of you about your Per Capita Tax payments each year. Your notes, e-mails, and phone calls remind me of the things that draw us together, such as our love for God, for each other, and for our neighbors. We share a deep appreciation for Mary Baker Eddy, her discovery of the Science of Christianity, and the Church she founded to heal and save humanity.
At times, however, we might feel alone, distanced from church, even cut off from God’s love or the human fellowship that expresses it. In moments like these, our great Exemplar, Christ Jesus, shows us the way. He never wavered in his conviction that God is ever present. Even when his closest followers were about to desert him, Jesus steadfastly declared, “I am not alone, because the Father is with me” (John 16:32).
As a new year dawns, let’s celebrate together our inseparable relationship with divine Love and the innumerable ways that we support each other in blessing the world. We all know the Truth that meets every need. We’re supported by a pastor, the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, which counsels, guides, comforts, and heals. We pray each day, “Thy kingdom come,” and study, apply, and prosper from the inspiration conveyed weekly in our Bible Lessons from the Christian Science Quarterly. We gather each Sunday and Wednesday to praise God and to feel the support and loving prayers of our fellow congregants around the world.
We all are part of God’s “universal family, held in the gospel of Love” (Science and Health, p. 577). Never underestimate the contribution you are making. Thank you for every prayer, demonstration of Christian healing, testimony of God’s omnipotence, and loving gesture toward our Church.
