Lesley Gort, CSB

Growing up in the suburbs of the industrial and commercial city of Manchester in NW England, Lesley was grateful for her education in a fine girls’ high school and for the firm moral basis that came from her parents and her attendance at a nearby Anglican church. Her interest and success in modern languages led her to take a degree in French at the University of Liverpool and to train for a career as a teacher of French to pupils aged 11 to 18.
Christian Science came into her life some years after she got married, when she looked into Mary Baker Eddy’s book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, seeking healing of a repeated tendency to miscarry. The ideas in Science and Health brought her renewed confidence and a changed, more spiritual perspective on life, as well as the desired healing. Her gratitude is unbounded for her and her husband’s growing family of 3 sons and 2 granddaughters and for the ongoing healing impact of Christian Science in her life and theirs.
At the same time as Lesley’s teaching career progressed, the number of calls for her to help others through the healing practice of Christian Science began to multiply and in 1990 her desire to enter the full-time healing practice came to fruition. Opportunities to engage in public speaking soon began to present themselves too. In 2003 she became an accredited teacher of Christian Science.
Lesley has had previous experience as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship, speaking to public audiences in school and college classrooms, public halls, libraries, spirituality festivals and interfaith events. She has also traveled in Europe lecturing in French. She loves the process of explaining Christian Science using ideas in Science and Health and the Bible. The ideas in these books offer what she calls “spiritual solutions with practical results.” They help people find answers to health and all kinds of challenges.
